What can a Hair Analysis Reveal?

Trace mineral hair analysis is a test that measures the mineral content of your hair. The mineral content of the hair reflects the mineral content of the body’s tissues. If a mineral deficiency or excess exists in the hair, it usually indicates a mineral deficiency or excess within the body or bio-unavailability.

Examples: If your hair reveals an elevated calcium level two or three times normal, then your calcium level within the body may be elevated also. If this is the case, a strong tendency exists for arteriosclerosis aka. hardening of the arteries due to calcium plaques.

If your calcium level is low, then a tendency exists toward osteoporosis (demineralization of bone), increased tendency to bone fractures, dental caries, periodontal disease, muscle cramps, etc.

Various mineral imbalances, as revealed by hair analysis frequently lead to metabolic dysfunctions before any symptoms become manifest.

Other conditions which may result or be aggravated by a mineral imbalance are:

  • Depression
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Hypertension
  • Headaches
  • Hyperactivity
  • Hair loss
  • anemia
  • Thyroid Disturbance
  • Prostate Disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Musculo-Skeletal Disorders
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Skin Rashes
  • Emotional Problems
  • Allergies

Why test for minerals?

Minerals are the “sparkplugs” of life. They are involved in almost all enzyme reactions within the body. Without enzyme activity, life ceases to exist. A trace mineral analysis is preventive as well as useful as a screening tool.

Hair Analysis vs. Blood Analysis

While urine and blood tests show the recent and current body status, hair represents a longer time frame, which can incorporate many years. Since the elements are present in the hair at higher levels, more sensitive and accurate analysis results can be expected.

Who needs hair analysis?

Anyone who is found ill and no explanation can be found, or when the cause seems to be found but the therapy is not wholly effective. Hair analysis opens up a whole new vista for solving your own particular problem by recognizing your biochemical individuality.  Even if you are not experiencing a severe problem, abnormal changes in body chemistry and nutritional deficiencies may result in early, subtle changes in the body such as:

  • White spots in fingernails- indicate a possible zinc deficiency
  • Longitudinal ridging in nails- indicates iron deficiency
  • Brittle hair and nails- calcium and copper imbalance
  • Deep groves across nails- calcium deficiency
  • Stretch marks- zinc deficiency
  • Lack of growth- zinc deficiency
  • Mood swings- possible toxic metal accumulation such as lead, mercury or cadmium.
  • Forgetfulness, brain fog- heavy metal toxicity

These indicators are early signs of metabolic disturbances and may lead to serious problems if left unchecked.

Common Causes of a Mineral Imbalance

  • Improper diet: such as excessive intake of refined carbohydrates and sugars, strict vegetarian diets, or other exclusive diets.
  • Taking vitamins and minerals that are not compatible with your current body chemistry
  • Medications
  • Birth Control Pills
  • Stress
  • Accumulation of toxic metals from the environment, job, or hobby
  • Inheritance of mineral patterns from parents

How is hair analysis performed?

Here at the clinic, we snip a little piece of your hair. Once the hair collection is complete, it is sent to the Analytical Research Labs, Inc. The only laboratory that does not wash the hair out before testing, therefore, provides the most accurate results. Once tests have been run, we will receive your full analysis and full nutritional report.  Dr. John will set aside about a 30-minute consultation with you to interpret your results and make recommendations for adding and eliminating the proper supplements to achieve your OPTIMAL HEALTH.

How much does it cost?
Normally, nutrient testing through blood work can cost up to $300, but with hair analysis, it’s only $150.

What if you are not local?

Demand for mineral tissue analysis is growing, however, it can be challenging to find a practitioner to perform the test near you. We have received several inquiries from out of state about this and figured out a way to work with you remotely.
When you book an appointment with us for hair analysis please put in the comment section that you are not local so we can make the necessary arrangements for your at-home test.
